We’ve always been told that it is the most important meal of the day, and it is true. Studies have shown that skipping breakfast can damage your weight loss efforts. But what should you eat? Here are 10 low calorie breakfast ideas that we like, not only because they taste good, but also because they can be prepared in a hurry with a microwave, ready-set-go, or toaster.



Chef Ravi Rai’s low calorie breakfast ideas:

1. Omelet sandwich. A whole wheat sandwich thin toasted with two egg whites scrambled with salt and pepper in cooking spray, a wedge of Laughing Cow light cheese, and a small banana. Variations include, add a piece of 98% fat free ham or diced frozen peppers and onions when scrambling your eggs. There are also many types of light laughing cow cheese. Check them out! They are all fabulous!
2. Yogurt combo. Chobani Greek yogurt (almost any flavor) and a whole wheat sandwich thin toasted with butter spray (just don’t open it up and pour it on your toast and you will be fine calorie wise).
3. Oatmeal with Mix-ins. Two packs of instant oatmeal, with one cup of frozen blueberries, and two packs of Splenda OR one tbsp of peanut butter. I cook the oatmeal for about 30 seconds, and then I add the blueberries or peanut butter in the last part of the microwave cooking time. It’s really good and really filling. I add Splenda, but that’s up to you. Either way it is under 300 calories! Blueberries will kinda of “pop” when you cook them, but I love that because it flavors your entire oatmeal.
4. Waffles on the go. Two toasted low fat waffles with one tablespoon of peanut butter spread in the middle and a 1/2 cup of grapes or half a banana or half an apple.
5. Quaker instant grits. This is that moment you realize I am for SURE from the South, and some Southerners do eat instant grits because we just loves grits no matter the style. Two packs of plain instant grits is 200 calories, and if you add a tbsp of light butter, that’s 50 more calories. You can also add two tablespoons of low fat shredded cheddar for 40 calories if you like that or nothing if you don’t. I like grits with only a little butter myself, but either way is under 300 calories.
